SoftBank“s Son says Arm will expand beyond chip design

2026.06.24 SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO MASAYOSHI Son said on June 24 that Arm plans to evolve from a chip designer into a broader chip provider and become more directly involved in manufacturing. Speaking at SoftBank's annual shareholders meeting, Son said central processing units (CPUs) would play a central role in the artificial intelligence era and argued that Arm still has more than tenfold growth potential. Son also cited SoftBank's roughly 300 billion yen investment in Intel, saying the move had faced criticism at the time but had since generated unrealized gains worth several trillion yen based on market value.
